Short History of Mee Poh Ikan Bakar
The Mee Poh Ikan
Bakar has existed for 16 years till date and it is owned by a Chinese uncle
from Ipoh. This stall is operated by the whole family where you can see their
teamwork in the works done. One will be taking order, one will be grilling the fish,
one will be preparing for the sauce and another one serving. When the owner was
interviewed, we got to know that the fishes sold are originated from Pulau
Pangkor, undoubtedly they are fresh. Besides that, the types of fishes sold are
Ikan Siakap, Bawal, Tilapia, Pari, Ikan Ayam and many more. You can even get
sotong bakar over here served with okra and the price charged for each
particular dish is based on the current market price.

Feedback by the existing customers
We interviewed two
existing customers over there and also one our team members to get feedback on
this particular dish, ‘Ikan Bakar’. The two customers feedback were to be taken
for good as the first customer, an Indian customer said that his family and him
have been their loyal customers since the past 10 years and that the taste has
not changed till now. Another Chinese customer we interviewed told that his
family from overseas will always insist him to take them to the stall whenever
they are back because of the evergreen taste of the gravy which is nowhere to
get. When we asked one of our group members, Li Ping, she said that the taste
was extraordinary and that she has never tasted something like this anywhere
else.

The most
ordered ‘ikan bakar’ would be the grilled stingray or can also be said as ‘Ikan
pari bakar’. The grilled stingray and the gravy topped on it which is served
together with the sauce is a just to die for dish. You will just have to
squeeze the limes given and enjoy. The owner said that the gravy is made by
using their own ingredients which will remain as a secret recipe forever.

Furthermore,
‘Sotong bakar’ is also said to be a common dish being ordered together with the
‘Ikan bakar’ and you can even eat them with white rice. The grilled squids are
served with vege and really tastes great. Even if many stalls on ikan bakar
have emerged lately, this one has been the favourite not only among those in
Ipoh but we would say among people from all walks of life. The taste is
amazingly fantastic, delicious and mouth-watering. Based on the feedback, we knew
that it is the gravy that attracts customers there and we can guarantee that
you will return back home with a full heart and stomach.
